Euphrates

The longest and most important river of southwest Asia, and one of the two major rivers in Mesopotamia. It is first mentioned at Genesis 2:14 as one of the four rivers of Eden. It is often called “the River.” (Ge 31:21) It was the northern boundary of Israel’s assigned territory. (Ge 15:18; Re 16:12)​—See App. B2.
