1 Peter 2:1-25

2  ᾿Αποθέμενοι Having put off from selvesοὖν thereforeπᾶσαν allκακίαν badnessκαὶ andπάντα allδόλον deceitκαὶ andὑπόκρισιν hypocrisyκαὶ andφθόνους enviesκαὶ andπάσας allκαταλαλιάς, speaking down on, 2  ὡς asἀρτιγέννητα right now generatedβρέφη infantsτὸ theλογικὸν belonging to the wordἄδολον non-deceitfulγάλα milkἐπιποθήσατε, long YOU after,ἵνα in order thatἐν inαὐτῷ itαὐξηθῆτε YOU might growεἰς intoσωτηρίαν, salvation, 3  εἰ ifἐγεύσασθε YOU tastedὅτι thatχρηστὸς kindὁ theκύριος. Lord. 4  πρὸς Towardὃν whomπροσερχόμενοι, coming toward,λίθον stoneζῶντα, living,ὑπὸ byἀνθρώπων menμὲν indeedἀποδεδοκιμασμένον having been disapprovedπαρὰ besideδὲ butθεῷ to Godἐκλεκτὸν (one) chosenἔντιμον precious 5  καὶ alsoαὐτοὶ very (ones)ὡς asλίθοι stonesζῶντες livingοἰκοδομεῖσθε YOU are being built upοἶκος houseπνευματικὸς spiritualεἰς intoἱεράτευμα priesthoodἅγιον, holy,ἀνενέγκαι to bear upπνευματικὰς spiritualθυσίας sacrificesεὐπροσδέκτους well acceptable towardθεῷ to Godδιὰ throughἸησοῦ JesusΧριστοῦ· Christ; 6  διότι through whichπεριέχει it is having aboutἐν inγραφῇ ScriptureἸδοὺ Look!τίθημι I am layingἐν inΣιὼν Sionλίθον stoneἐκλεκτὸν chosenἀκρογωνιαῖον top cornerstoneἔντιμον, precious,καὶ andὁ the (one)πιστεύων believingἐπ’ uponαὐτῷ itοὐ notμὴ notκαταισχυνθῇ. should be shamed down. 7  ὑμῖν To YOUοὖν thereforeἡ theτιμὴ preciousnessτοῖς to the (ones)πιστεύουσιν· believing;ἀπιστοῦσιν to (ones) not believingδὲ butλίθος stoneὃν whichἀπεδοκίμασαν disapprovedοἱ the (ones)οἰκοδομοῦντες buildingοὗτος this (one)ἐγενήθη becameεἰς intoκεφαλὴν headγωνίας of corner 8  καὶ andλίθος stoneπροσκόμματος of striking towardκαὶ andπέτρα rock-massσκανδάλου· of fall-causing;οἳ which (ones)προσκόπτουσιν are striking towardτῷ to theλόγῳ wordἀπειθοῦντες· being disobedient;εἰς intoὃ whichκαὶ alsoἐτέθησαν. they were put. 9  ὑμεῖς YOUδὲ butγένος raceἐκλεκτόν, chosen,βασίλειον royalἱεράτευμα, priesthood,ἔθνος nationἅγιον, holy,λαὸς peopleεἰς intoπεριποίησιν, procuring,ὅπως so thatτὰς theἀρετὰς virtuesἐξαγγείλητε YOU might declareτοῦ of the (one)ἐκ out ofσκότους darknessὑμᾶς YOUκαλέσαντος having calledεἰς intoτὸ theθαυμαστὸν wonderfulαὐτοῦ of himφῶς· light; 10  οἵ whoποτε sometimeοὐ notλαὸς peopleνῦν nowδὲ butλαὸς peopleθεοῦ, of God,οἱ the (ones)οὐκ notἠλεημένοι having being shown mercyνῦν nowδὲ butἐλεηθέντες. (ones) shown mercy. 11  ᾿Αγαπητοί, Loved (ones),παρακαλῶ I am encouragingὡς asπαροίκους dwellers besideκαὶ andπαρεπιδήμους alien residentsἀπέχεσθαι to be having selves fromτῶν theσαρκικῶν fleshlyἐπιθυμιῶν, desires,αἵτινες whichστρατεύονται are doing military serviceκατὰ againstτῆς theψυχῆς· soul; 12  τὴν theἀναστροφὴν conductὑμῶν of YOUἐν inτοῖς theἔθνεσιν nationsἔχοντες havingκαλήν, fine,ἵνα, in order that,ἐν inᾧ what (thing)καταλαλοῦσιν they are speaking down onὑμῶν YOUὡς asκακοποιῶν, doers of bad,ἐκ out ofτῶν theκαλῶν fineἔργων worksἐποπτεύοντες having eyes uponδοξάσωσι they might glorifyτὸν theθεὸν Godἐν inἡμέρᾳ dayἐπισκοπῆς. of inspection. 13  Ὑποτάγητε Be YOU subjectedπάσῃ to everyἀνθρωπίνῃ belonging to manκτίσει creationδιὰ throughτὸν theκύριον· Lord;εἴτε whetherβασιλεῖ to kingὡς asὑπερέχοντι, to (one) being superior, 14  εἴτε orἡγεμόσιν to governorsὡς asδι’ throughαὐτοῦ himπεμπομένοις being sentεἰς intoἐκδίκησιν vengeanceκακοποιῶν of doers of badἔπαινον praiseδὲ butἀγαθοποιῶν· of doers of good; 15  ὅτι becauseοὕτως thusἐστὶν isτὸ theθέλημα willτοῦ of theθεοῦ, God,ἀγαθοποιοῦντας (ones) doing goodφιμοῖν to muzzleτὴν theτῶν of theἀφρόνων senselessἀνθρώπων menἀγνωσίαν· ignorance; 16  ὡς asἐλεύθεροι, free (ones),καὶ andμὴ notὡς asἐπικάλυμμα covering uponἔχοντες havingτῆς of theκακίας badnessτὴν theἐλευθερίαν, freedom,ἀλλ’ butὡς asθεοῦ of Godδοῦλοι. slaves. 17  πάντας Allτιμήσατε, honor YOU,τὴν theἀδελφότητα brotherhoodἀγαπᾶτε, be YOU loving,τὸν theθεὸν Godφοβεῖσθε, be YOU fearing,τὸν theβασιλέα kingτιμᾶτε. be YOU honoring. 18  Οἱ Theοἰκέται house (servants)ὑποτασσόμενοι subjecting selvesἐν inπαντὶ allφόβῳ fearτοῖς to theδεσπόταις, masters,οὐ notμόνον onlyτοῖς to theἀγαθοῖς good (ones)καὶ andἐπιεικέσιν to yielding (ones)ἀλλὰ butκαὶ alsoτοῖς to theσκολιοῖς. crooked (ones). 19  τοῦτο Thisγὰρ forχάρις graciousnessεἰ ifδιὰ throughσυνείδησιν conscienceθεοῦ of Godὑποφέρει is bearing underτις someoneλύπας griefsπάσχων sufferingἀδίκως· unjustly; 20  ποῖον of what sortγὰρ forκλέος thing called outεἰ ifἁμαρτάνοντες sinningκαὶ andκολαφιζόμενοι being hit with fistὑπομενεῖτε; YOU will be remaining under?ἀλλ’ Butεἰ ifἀγαθοποιοῦντες doing goodκαὶ andπάσχοντες sufferingὑπομενεῖτε, YOU will be remaining under,τοῦτο thisχάρις graciousnessπαρὰ besideθεῷ. God. 21  εἰς Intoτοῦτο thisγὰρ forἐκλήθητε, YOU were called,ὅτι becauseκαὶ alsoΧριστὸς Christἔπαθεν sufferedὑπὲρ overὑμῶν, YOU,ὑμῖν to YOUὑπολιμπάνων leaving underὑπογραμμὸν under-writingἵνα in order thatἐπακολουθήσητε YOU might follow uponτοῖς theἴχνεσιν footstepsαὐτοῦ· of him; 22  ὃς whoἁμαρτίαν sinοὐκ notἐποίησεν didοὐδὲ norεὑρέθη was foundδόλος deceitἐν inτῷ theστόματι mouthαὐτοῦ· of him; 23  ὃς whoλοιδορούμενος being reviledοὐκ notἀντελοιδόρει, he reviled in return,πάσχων sufferingοὐκ notἠπείλει, he was threatening,παρεδίδου was giving self besideδὲ butτῷ to the (one)κρίνοντι judgingδικαίως· righteously; 24  ὃς whoτὰς theἁμαρτίας sinsἡμῶν of usαὐτὸς heἀνήνεγκεν bore upἐν inτῷ theσώματι bodyαὐτοῦ of himἐπὶ uponτὸ theξύλον, wood,ἵνα in order thatταῖς to theἁμαρτίαις sinsἀπογενόμενοι having become offτῇ to theδικαιοσύνῃ righteousnessζήσωμεν· we might live;οὗ of whomτῷ to theμώλωπι woundἰάθητε. YOU were healed. 25  ἦτε YOU wereγὰρ forὡς asπρόβατα sheepπλανώμενοι, being made to err,ἀλλὰ butἐπεστράφητε YOU were turned uponνῦν nowἐπὶ uponτὸν theποιμένα shepherdκαὶ andἐπίσκοπον overseerτῶν of theψυχῶν soulsὑμῶν. of YOU.
